Is Bay Shore a good place to live?

Anyone else feel this way? The median home value here is around $467,800, which is pretty steep. It's a a smaller city city with about 31,275 people. Homes are going for about $467,800 on average. Median household income is $101,695, which feels pretty solid for the area. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I overthinking this? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from New York about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
