Things Bay Shore needs to improve

Longtime lurker here, My family moved here when I was a kid. Household incomes average around $101,695 in Bay Shore. You can expect to pay around $1,907 for rent here. With a population of 31,275, Bay Shore is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Bay Shore sits at 22.0 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Should I be concerned? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 7 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much growing but now it's solid.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
