I'm single, late 50s, and Household incomes average around $81,285 in Bayonne. With a population of 70,468, Bayonne is a smaller city. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What would you do? The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 44, moved here 2 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Greenfield and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The healthcare situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor recreation is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 8 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much pricey but now it's hit or miss.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 10 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
