What I wish I knew before living in Bayside

Been meaning to ask this. Crime rate is something to consider -Bayside sits at 69.1 per 100K. Household incomes average around $144,500 in Bayside. You can expect to pay around $1,516 for rent here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Diverse community
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Would love some local perspective. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 50, moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Pine Hills and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The traffic situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 12 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
