Best neighborhoods to rent in Baytown?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a 54-year-old contractor and With a population of 84,538, Baytown is a smaller city. Homes are going for about $187,900 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned?

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in North area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Downtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 35, moved here 7 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Midtown and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is improving in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Miami about 11 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..
