Pros and cons of Baytown after 9 years

Anyone else feel this way? Born and raised here. Rent is about $1,217/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $61,699 in Baytown. The median home value here is around $187,900, which is actually reasonable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cheers. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The traffic is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 40, moved here 2 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Eastside and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The job market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
