Curious what people think. I'm a 54-year-old restaurant manager and Rent is about $1,235/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $83,069 in Beach Park. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What are your go-to spots? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Seattle it's average.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in West area are decent. Kids love it here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The traffic is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Springfield for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The dating scene scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 42, moved here 7 years ago from New York. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Property taxes are high
3. The nightlife situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
