Hey folks, I'm single, late 30s, and Rent is about $2,236/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 11,002 people. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Let me know your thoughts. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 54, moved here 3 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The cost of living situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**

Came here for retirement and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The traffic is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
