Is Beaufort a good place to live?

OK so I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 14.8%, which is around average. Median household income is $59,454, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $1,061/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Diverse community
- Active local events

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Lack of diversity
- Far from major airports
Any advice would be great. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely improving and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Eastside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Chicago it's better than expected.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is solid in most areas.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.
