Is Beaufort a good place to live?
OK so I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 14.8%, which is around average. Median household income is $59,454, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $1,061/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.
Pros:
- Friendly people
- Diverse community
- Active local events
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Lack of diversity
- Far from major airports
Any advice would be great. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to.
