Came here for work and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The food scene is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 34, moved here 2 years ago from Austin. I've lived in East and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The healthcare situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 26, moved here 4 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The traffic situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Westside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 9 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 53, moved here 8 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Westside and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The school system situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Austin about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much wild but now it's challenging.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Nashville it's hit or miss.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Atlanta about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 8 years. Moved from LA for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Bugs and humidity in summer. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
