The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Austin about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much reasonable but now it's hit or miss.

I work in government here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is improving. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The public transit is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 10 years. Moved from Portland for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Road conditions need improvement. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
