Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much stable but now it's decent.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 2 years. Moved from Tampa for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Old Town) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Highland for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- The walkability scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in government. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cost of living is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been here 3 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
