Anyone else feel this way? Homes are going for about $189,800 on average. Has anyone dealt with this?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 14 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to LA it's solid.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The job market is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to San Diego it's excellent.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Charlotte about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Good luck with whatever you decide..
