Top 5 things I love about Beaver Dam

First post here. Average temperature is around 45--F, so bundle up in winter. Homes are going for about $189,800 on average. Poverty rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from LA about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 1 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for weather and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The walkability is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
