So, I'm single, late 30s, and You can expect to pay around $740 for rent here. The median home value here is around $92,900, which is actually reasonable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I overthinking this? Any help is appreciated. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in construction. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (South) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Austin about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..
