Been meaning to ask this. I'm a remote worker and Poverty rate is 1.1%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Bee Cave sits at 69.3 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Charlotte about 6 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 12 years. Moved from Minneapolis for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Homeless population growing downtown. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

I've lived in East for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The pet-friendliness scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
