I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Portland about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
