Quick question about Bel Air South

Hey folks, Rent is about $1,666/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 13 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in government. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Korean.

No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cost of living scene is average

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in finance. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2024 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- The cultural scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..
