Crime rate is something to consider -Belgium sits at 105.6 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 2,648 people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.
