Relocating to Belgrade, MT -pros and cons?

Just moved here 1 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Belgrade sits at 380.3 per 100K. With a population of 11,425, Belgrade is a small town. The median home value here is around $469,600, which is pretty steep. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Does this match your experience? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely excellent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a electrician and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.
