Planning a move to Bellaire -neighborhoods?

First post here. With a population of 17,116, Bellaire is a small town. Homes are going for about $978,300 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Would love some local perspective. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

I've lived in Westside for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- The public transit scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 15 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Minneapolis it's excellent.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
