The median home value here is around $482,600, which is pretty steep. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Boston about 8 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 25, moved here 8 years ago from Portland. I've lived in East and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The nightlife situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
