I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $230,800 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Thanks for reading.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Midtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been here 2 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
