Commute times in Bellevue — how bad?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm retired and Household incomes average around $161,300 in Bellevue. You can expect to pay around $2,505 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thoughts? TIA!

I've lived in The Heights for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much pricey but now it's solid.

I've lived in Westside for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The traffic scene is average

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Miami about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is average.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Atlanta about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 57, moved here 15 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The community vibe situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been here 2 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Houston it's underrated.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Denver about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..
