Anyone else feel this way? It's a a mid-size city city with about 151K people. The median home value here is around $1,203,100, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $2,505 for rent here. With a population of 151K, Bellevue is a mid-size city. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What do you all think? TIA! Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 9 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely improving and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Springfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
