Anyone else feel this way? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Thanks!

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 58, moved here 10 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Oak Park and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The safety situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for singles. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great seafood places. it's not perfect but it works for me.
