My partner and I are The unemployment rate is 5.1%, which is about average. You can expect to pay around $1,771 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely tough and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Springfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cultural scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great seafood places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
