Been meaning to ask this. Been living here since 2016. Crime rate is something to consider -Bellingham sits at 273.1 per 100K. Rent is about $1,478/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Any advice would be great.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Eastside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The housing market scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The cost of living is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely decent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Downtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Downtown area are better than expected. Kids love it here.
