Cost of living reality check -Belmont

Longtime lurker here, Crime rate is something to consider -Belmont sits at 165.0 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 27,505 people. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Worth the trade-offs? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in South for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The healthcare scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Uptown area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Pittsburgh it's underrated.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 8 years. Moved from Raleigh for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Rising rent and home prices. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The walkability is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Asian places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
