Curious what people think. I work in education and It's a a smaller city city with about 27,009 people. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $2,387 for rent here. Rent is about $2,387/month for a decent place. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely average and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (North) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (West) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Chicago about 15 years ago. The main reasons were school and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is underrated in most areas.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for school and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The traffic is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
