Why I chose Belvedere Park over bigger cities

So, I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $266,000 on average. It's a a small town city with about 14,422 people. Poverty rate is 12.0%, which is around average. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Belvedere Park sits at 148.2 per 100K. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Diverse community
- Easy commute
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Not very walkable
- Lack of diversity
- Far from major airports
- Homelessness issues downtown
Would love some local perspective. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Atlanta about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.
