Hey folks, I'm retired and Household incomes average around $62,462 in Belvidere. You can expect to pay around $943 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Thai places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for family and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor recreation is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
