I'm a project manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 2 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..
