I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Atlanta about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 4 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:

- Nice parks and green spaces
- The school system scene is average
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 52, moved here 14 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Riverside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The dating scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.
