I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Phoenix about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been here 5 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..
