Hello, Born and raised here. The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 28,269, Bergenfield is a smaller city. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What do you all think? The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The community vibe is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely decent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in engineering. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 2 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much pricey but now it's challenging.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
