Best neighborhoods in Berkeley

Not sure if this has been asked before, but The median home value here is around $1,351,100, which is pretty steep. It's a a mid-size city city with about 120K people. Homes are going for about $1,351,100 on average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Diverse community
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Chain restaurants dominate
Has anyone dealt with this? The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I've lived in Riverside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The pet-friendliness scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for work and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The traffic is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Eastside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- The community vibe scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 30, moved here 15 years ago from Portland. I've lived in East and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The food scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 8 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much pricey but now it's challenging.
