Biggest downsides of living in Berkeley?

So, I'm retired and Household incomes average around $108,558 in Berkeley. The median home value here is around $1,351,100, which is pretty steep. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Let me know your thoughts. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I've lived in Westside for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The pet-friendliness scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
