Random thought, Median household income is $108,558, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $1,351,100, which is pretty steep. It's a a mid-size city city with about 120K people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Has anyone dealt with this? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely average and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Midtown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 8 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to San Francisco it's excellent.
