We're a young couple and With a population of 120K, Berkeley is a mid-size city. It's a a mid-size city city with about 120K people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thanks! People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in The Heights area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Indian.
