Hello, We have two kids and The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. Crime rate is something to consider -Berkley sits at 438.2 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 10,838 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Anyone in a similar situation? TIA! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I've lived in Uptown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- The weather scene is decent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a social worker who relocated here from San Francisco about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 33, moved here 13 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in East and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The dating scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for families. excellent vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Definitely worth checking out..
