Alright, I'm single, late 20s, and The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. With a population of 15,084, Berkley is a small town. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I wrong here? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Greenfield area are decent. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 1 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Close to major attractions
- The pet-friendliness scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Dallas about 11 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
