Affordable areas near Berlin?

Been living here since 2010. Homes are going for about $113,500 on average. Poverty rate is 14.6%, which is around average. Median household income is $43,972, which feels on the lower side for the area. With a population of 9,473, Berlin is a small town. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Great weather
- Diverse community
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Poor road conditions
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Chicago about 4 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..
