Been meaning to ask this. I relocated for work and Homes are going for about $699,200 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Would love some local perspective. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Bought a house here in 2020 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (North) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Italian.
