Been meaning to ask this. Been living here since 2021. You can expect to pay around $1,259 for rent here. Poverty rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I wrong here? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 1 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (West) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
