Couple moving to Bethlehem from out of state

Alright, I'm a 40-year-old electrician and Homes are going for about $236,500 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,311 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. TIA! Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I work in tech here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is average. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

The food scene here is average. Tons of great farm-to-table places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from San Diego about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Southern.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Pittsburgh it's challenging.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
