Honest thoughts on life in Bethlehem

First post here. I'm a remote worker and Median household income is $66,443, which feels about average for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 77,069 people. You can expect to pay around $1,311 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Bethlehem sits at 281.2 per 100K. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Close to nature
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- High property taxes
- Lack of diversity
Any advice would be great. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
