Moving to Bethlehem — what should I know?

I got a job offer in Bethlehem, PA and I'm seriously considering the move. I'm coming from a large city. A few questions:

1. Which neighborhoods should I look at for a $1000-1600 budget?
2. How's the commute situation?
3. Is the crime rate accurate for day-to-day life?
4. Any hidden costs I should know about?

Coming from Philadelphia, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are about the same.
