Not sure if this has been asked before, but Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 45, moved here 10 years ago from New York. I've lived in Lakewood and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The walkability situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Tampa it's decent.

I work in real estate here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is excellent. Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Seattle about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The housing market is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 42, moved here 11 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Eastside and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Westside area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 5 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- The public transit scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..
