Is public transit usable in Big Bear City?

Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (West) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Baltimore about 15 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much established but now it's pretty good.
